What language are events held in?
By default all our events are in English or Spanish – we can provide sometimes provide events in other languages by prior arrangement – Contact Us
Can I change the date or reschedule?
Yes – Subject to our cancellation policy – you can change your date. We cannot reschedule events that are due to take place within 24 hours.
I would like to gift a friend a place or a course or provide them a voucher – can you do that?
Yes! – Click here to find out about our Gift Cards, which you can buy for the monetary value of your choice, or Gift Certificates which entitle the recipients to attend a specific event.
I would like to run a custom / private event for my group, family, team or friends – Can you do that?

We have a car – is there parking at the Kitchen?

How do your wine tastings work?
Set in the beautiful orangerie of Boutique Maison Canto De Luz or on a sunny afternoon in our lovely garden, our Douro Valley wine tastings are a lovely way to spend an hour and a half with your special person or people, learning a little about some of the best wines and Ports of the Douro Valley without even having to leave the city of Porto!
Whats included?
Each tasting session includes 50ml tasting glasses of 2 Whites (incl 1 reserve) , 2 Reds (including 1 Organic/Bio or Reserve vintage) and a Rose as well as a 30ml tasting of Port Wine. Served with a plate of Queijo y Presunto (cured ham and cheese Portuguese tapas plate), they will take you on a journey to discover our guest vineyard and learn a little about the production, grapes and magic that makes Douro wines so very special.
Can I add premium Ports to the tasting?
Absolutely – we offer an upgrade option when you book to add a 20-year Tawny Port and a Reserva Ruby port to the tasting (30ml)
Whats the minimum age for Wine Tasting ? Can we bring our children even though they are not taking part?
Wine-tasting events are only suitable for adults over the age of 18. Unfortunately, local regulations prohibit the presence of children during the event.
I am Vegan or Vegetarian – are your classes suitable for me?
All our classes contain vegan or vegetarian dishes, but do bear in mind that traditionally Portuguese cuisine is heavily based on meat and fish consumption. If you are interested in a custom course specific to your needs – contact us here
Can my friends or family come and watch?
Unfortunately, events are only accessible to paying attendees because of space constraints. Your friends and family are welcome to come and join you at the end of the event where you can purchase drinks and tapas in our Orangerie once the event has finished.
Who is going to teach my class / run my event?
Our team of teaching chefs and tasting leaders host our events. Each has a wealth of experience and local and international expertise.
Do I need to be an accomplished chef to come your courses?
No! We believe that food and gastronomy are gateways to learning about local culture and no special experience is necessary – whether you a complete beginner or a seasoned pro our Chefs adjust their pace and techniques to your needs to ensure that you have an amazing time.
Can I bring my own wine / drinks / food?
We will provide all the ingredients you need to make the recipes on the course. Wine and other drinks included in the event are provided as advertised, and further drinks are available for purchase. Due to health and safety and alcohol rules in Portugal we can’t allow attendees to bring their own ingredients, drinks or alcohol to consume at the Kitchen.
Do I need to wear anything special or bring anything?
We will provide you with a chef’s hat and an apron to wear in the kitchen. Please don’t wear flip-flops or open-soled shoes, and if you have long hair we ask you to tie it back for hygiene reasons.
What time should I arrive?
Please arrive 10 minutes before the scheduled start time at the named meeting point. Note—Our courses that include a market tour start at the meeting point AT THE MARKET and NOT at the Kitchen at Canto Cooking. Please make sure you use the meeting point maps link in the booking confirmation. Unfortunately, for the benefit of the group as a whole and because of the briefing at the start, we cannot wait for or admit late arrivals to the event.
Where does the course finish?
The cooking all takes place in the Kitchen at Maison Canto De Luz – where Canto Cooking is based. The address if someone is coming to meet you at the end of the event is Rua do Almada 539, Porto 4050-039. Check the start point for your event on the confirmation as Market Tours meet at the Market, NOT at the Kitchen.
Can Children attend the Course?
The minimum age for attendees is 14. Children aged 8-14 are only admitted to courses specifically designed and offered as Child-Friendly or if it’s a custom course specifically designed for younger chefs— contact us here for information on private/custom course options. Children aged 15-17 can attend all our courses with a paying adult who is responsible for them, but they obviously may not consume alcohol if provided as part of the course.

Will you pick us up and take us back to our accommodation?
Transfers to and from the event are offered as an add-on option on our booking page for a fixed cost within the metropolitan area for up to 4 passengers in a standard saloon car.
Where can I get the recipe’s for the dishes we cooked?
At the end of the course, you will go home with a goodie bag including some of the specialist ingredients to be able to recreate the recipes in your own kitchen back home. This goodie bag includes the recipes from the course, which are also available electronically on request.
